Belknap is born in Damariscotta Maine. Belknap is daughter to David Belknap, and Louise Belknap. She was a student at Lincoln Academy, Newcastle Maine. It was during this time that acting became her main interest while she was attending Middlebury College Vermont. After that, she studied at the American Conservatory Theater earning a Master of Fine Arts degree.
